Creation Care Team
The Creation Care Team seeks to more intentionally care for "this fragile Earth, our island home." We do this by paying attention to all aspects of our parish life and what they have to say about our role in God's creation. This includes the land on which our buildings stand and the buildings themselves, the words of our liturgy and music, the Christian formation of children and adults, the organizations we support with our time and money, and the many ways we are present in the larger Newtown community.

The Dorothy Day Hospitality House
Every third Tuesday of the month, a small dedicated crew of Trinity parishioners gathers on Spring Street in Danbury. They come with foodstuffs to prepare and a determined purpose to feed anyone hungry who chooses to stop by between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm. Dorothy Day House is one of the few spots where this population is met with warmth and caring. There are some poignant discussions held at the window. These are men and women with lives that have taken twists and turns. There but for fortune, so go most of us.
The number of hungry food seekers ranges between 50 and 180 tired souls. Most of the clients are homeless or nearly so. Too often they are mothers with hungry young children in tow. Mostly what these folks are is, God’s hungry people. We must feed them!
Working at Dorothy Day House is magical; the volunteers who work there receive as much as the folks coming to eat. If you have any interest in learning about a commitment to Trinity’s Mission and Outreach, please take action. Rev. Andrea is deeply concerned and a fine place to begin a discussion. Alternatively, call the Trinity office, at (203)426-9080 or email at [email protected].

Laundry Love
Laundry Love of Greater Danbury (LLGD) helps people who are struggling financially clean their clothes and linens on a regular basis. Trinity Church is a sponsor along with 9 other community organizations. Laundry Love began in 2003 when T-Bone, a homeless man in Ventura, California, was asked, “T-Bone, how can we come alongside your life in a way that would matter?” His response was honest and practical, “If I had clean clothes I think people would treat me like a human being.” There are now hundreds of Laundry Love initiatives nationwide, serving an estimated 72,000 people each year. Laundry Love takes place at White Street Wash, 30 White Street, Danbury every second Wednesday from 1 pm to 7 pm. To take part please contact Carol Bigman at [email protected] or 203-300-8338.
Laundry Love was recently featured in the Danbury News Times - click here to read the article. The organization is struggling to keep up with the demand, and are looking for donations. Click here to contribute.
The Mission and Outreach Commission has selected Laundry Love of Greater Danbury as the recipient of our Special Easter Collection. LL serves low income/ no income residents of Danbury by providing laundry cards. These cards may be redeemed at White’s Wash in Danbury. Each card, valued at $10.00 each, provides two wash and drying cycles.
Trinity joined a number of faith communities in the Danbury area by pledging initial seed money However, with the arrival of Covid, some of these churches could not continue their pledge. So while the financial support dwindled, the demand skyrocketed. In the past year this need tripled.
Each month our volunteers distribute cards to various agencies such as Dorothy Day who in turn give them to their clients. Additionally, we hold a laundry event at White’s once a month. We are at a point now that we do not have sufficient cards for our clients.
Please give generously by writing a check to Trinity, with "Laundry Love" in the memo. You may also donate online.
Many thanks for your generosity.

Interfaith Partnership for Refugee Resettlement (IPRR)
Trinity has joined a number of faith communities in the greater Newtown area to resettle refugee families. Non affiliated individuals have also joined IPRR. Working closely with IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) we co-sponsor families upon their arrival in the United States. Each family has been thoroughly vetted by the state department. We are committed to helping each family learn English, obtain employment, enroll in school and become productive and independent community members. Last summer, Mission and Outreach sent the children from our third family to YMCA camp in Brookfield for two weeks. These children are all now successfully attending Danbury Public Schools. Trinity, along with these other groups, offer many volunteer opportunities in these areas. You may wish to be a driver or a tutor....the needs are many.
IPRR is currently assisting its fourth and fifth refugee families since 2016 to transition to life in communities in the greater Danbury area of Connecticut. If you would like to contribute, click here.

Faith Food Pantry
Trinity is a faithful contributor to the Faith Food Pantry, located behind St. Rose Roman Catholic Church on Church Hill Road. Trinity parishioners are provided red reusable bags to bring on their weekly grocery shopping trips in order to purchase non-perishable items that will be returned to Trinity. These offerings are provided to the Faith Food Pantry each week. Halloween and the Great Pumpkin Challenge
The youth of Trinity organize the Great Pumpkin Challenge to raise funds for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. We hold a pumpkin carving event at Trinity Church and also invite the community to display their carved pumpkins for a $5 donation. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded in 1988 by Paul Newman and is dedicated to providing a fun and nurturing experience for seriously ill children and their families. With thousands of people trick-or-treating on Main Street in Newtown each Halloween, it is fun to be part of the community experience.

Newtown Interfaith Council
The Newtown Interfaith Council is made up of local religious leaders representing the Al-Hedaya Islamic Center, Congregation Adath Israel, the Bahai Community, the Newtown Congregational Church, Christian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Christ the King Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home of Southbury, Newtown United Methodist Church, and St. Rose Roman Catholic Church. Youth from these faith communities get together regularly for activities. The council hosts a community- wide Thanksgiving service and an annual Service of Remembrance for the Sandy Hook School shooting. Trinity is steadfast in its support of our Muslim and Jewish neighbors and stands with them when they feel under attack. Trinity also hosts events to better understand the challenges of immigrants in Connecticut.
