A Letter to Our Next Rector
Let’s be honest, it is counter-cultural to go to church in Connecticut. It’s easier to sleep in on Sundays or spend the time shuttling our kids to ball games. It’s easier believing we can just reason our way through any situation.
The people of Trinity Church, Newtown know this isn’t enough. We know that God is at work all around us and we are God’s hands. We know that a prayer life of the heart complements a thinking life of the head. We know that by coming together for worship, study, fellowship, and service we are nourished by the Holy Spirit and thereby can contribute more in all aspects of our lives.
We are glad you are joining us as a leader. We desire to grow as disciples following Jesus and as apostles serving God's mission. We need guidance and encouragement to make a bigger impact in our neighborhood. We can bring people together in a society that wants to divide us by politics, by wealth, by age, by gender, and by the color of our skin.
We are glad you are joining us as a teacher, bringing us old and new techniques for enriching our spiritual lives.
We are glad you are joining us as a pastor. Newtown is still a tender place following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. You can help us and the community heal, which takes new forms with each passing year.
We hope you enjoy spending time with us whether at boisterous Breakfast Sundays, challenging chili cook-offs, or on silent retreats.
We are curious, excited, and a bit nervous about what God has in mind for us these next few years. Thank you for walking beside us on the journey.
In faith, hope, and love,
The people of Trinity Church, Newtown
