Youth are an important
part of the congregation of Trinity Church. They are active in all
parts of the life of the parish, including the Vestry, which has
a youth representative. Youth are involved in worship as acolytes,
in choir, and as Liturgical Assistants. They have two youth groups
and church school classes geared for them. Parental meetings happen
every so often to keep parents up to date on what is going on in
the parish for their youth, and the Youth Commission meets monthly.
Acolytes
All 6th-12th grade youth are invited to become acolytes at Trinity.
Acolytes lead processions and assist the clergy at the altar during
worship services. Recruitment and training takes place each fall,
supervised by the Acolyte Director and overseen by the clergy. Four
acolytes are scheduled for each Sunday throughout the year.
Liturgical Assistants
Trinity has a designated Youth Sunday every month, usually the second
Sunday of the month. Youth who are interested can be trained to
be lectors, intercessors, and ushers for these services. Youth are
also welcome to join the regular rotation of Liturgical Assistants
and ushers with adults on the other Sundays.
Confirmation
All youth who are 16 years of age or older by the end of the school
year are invited to be Confirmed in the Episcopal Church. "Confirmation
is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ,
and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the
laying on of hands by a bishop."
Young People's Fellowship (YPF)
There is a YPF for Middle
School and one for High School age youth. YPF is the youth group
at Trinity and these groups meet at least twice a month and usually
on Sundays. The YPF exists to help build and provide a supportive
Christian community of faith for our youth. The meetings can include
games, activities, discussions, and fellowship. Different events
that the YPF holds include progressive dinners, movie nights, lock-ins,
retreats, ski trips, camping trips, ropes courses, dances, fund
raisers, outreach and worship. An Ecumenical Youth event in Newtown
happens nearly every month and our youth are involved in its planning
and participation. A deanery wide youth event is planned periodically
and our youth can participate in diocesan/provincial/national events.
The High School YPF goes every summer to a Group Workcamp
- an experience where youth from around the country gather to help
build and fix homes for those in need in a community.
Youth Commission
All youth, parents and adults are invited to participate in the
Youth Commission - an advisory commission working with the clergy
on support, advocacy, communication, issues and events of youth
ministry in the parish. The Commission controls the budget for youth
ministries and helps make decisions around programs and policy for
the youth ministries at Trinity.
