We are born into or adopted by families. In baptism we become part of another family: the family of God, with our parish community as the local expression. As part of the baptismal service, promises are also made – either for us when we are young, or by us when we are older – a set of vows entering into a special relationship with Christ. The congregation makes promises too, to support those who are baptized to grow in their Christian life. These individual and communal vows are so important to us that we renew our commitment to them several times a year: to bring them to mind, ponder how we are doing at living them out and consider how we might embody them more fully.
All of this informs our approach to baptism: we hold baptisms during our worship on particular special Sundays during the church year; those who are baptized, or their parents in the case of children, are committed to being a regular part of our faith community; we baptize babies, children and adults. Baptism is forever – we do not redo it once it has been done.
If you or your child(ren) are interested in being baptized, join us for worship to see if this is the faith community that you would like to call home, then talk to our priests.
