Programs/Curriculum

Our curriculum reflects our philosophy that young children learn through active exploration of their environment. Framework for our curriculum is based on the following:

  • Developmentally Appropriate Practice (NAEYC)
  • Preschool Curricular Goals and Benchmarks (CT State Department of Education)
  • Statutes and Regulations for Day Care Licensing (CT Department of Health)

A range of both child-initiated and teacher-selected activities are offered throughout the school year.

The areas of development which our curriculum focuses on are the following:

  • Personal/Social/Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Cognitive Development
  • Creative Expression/Aesthetic Development

These developmental domains are highly interdependent on each other and our curriculum reflects the child as a "whole" when considering their growth and development.

Three Year Old Curriculum

As three year olds enter Trinity Day School, our goals are to create a secure, nurturing environment where children are accepted for their individuality and respected as curious learners. Throughout the school year, our students will be encouraged to become active members of the class. With understanding, facilitation and a clear knowledge of child development we will expose our students to a variety of age-appropriate activities while empowering them to make independent decisions and choices in their exploration.

Four Year Old Curriculum

Our four year old curriculum is based on the premise of integrating themes which are relevant and interesting to the four year old's world. Monthly curriculum webs are planned within the emotional, intellectual, social and physical realm of a preschooler's development. Students will participate in both large group activities (circle time) such as movement and singing activities, and in small group activities which are play-based and instructional. Their environment will be designed to include a variety of interest areas and children will be encouraged to choose specific centers for exploration. Self-help skills, personal responsibility and self-control issues will be addressed on a daily basis. It is our hope that our children will grow as curious learners with confidence and positive self-esteem in their school setting. It is very possible that a different area of interest will be generated from the student population of a class. That topic of interest will be used as a springboard for covering all domains of development. It is our goal that learning will be incorporated in areas of interest and relevancy for our four year old students.
