Our caring does not end at our church doors; God calls us to reach out to our community and the world. By supporting local, national, and international efforts for bettering peoples’ lives, we seek to offer the gifts we have been given to others in the name of Christ.

Trinity’s “Sustainable Philanthropy” Committee uses the kiva web portal to make microloans to poor people who couldn’t otherwise get loans to start or expand a business. The committee was initially funded by a grant from the Mission and Outreach commission.
By lending money and re-lending money as the original loans are re-paid, we are doing a small part towards helping to alleviate poverty around the world, consistent with Trinity’s commitment to the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). We use the kiva.org web portal to find borrowers from around the globe who want to borrow money. We prayerfully work to identify borrowers and make new loans as old loans are repaid. We read their stories and look at their picture as well as keep a diversified portfolio to mitigate loan losses. This means we are re-using the same money over and over again.

(Kiva is a not-for-profit web portal that enables lenders and borrowers to find each other on the website. 100% of the money lent to borrowers goes to the borrowers as kiva relies on outside donations to cover their operating expenses. )
