The Trinity Book Group is reading for its next discussion A Generous Community: Being the Church in a New Missionary Age by Bishop C. Andrew Doyle. The meeting will take place on Friday, June 3, 7pm and will be hosted and facilitated by Sophfronia Gregory. The C.H. Booth Library on Main Street will have one copy available to borrow. New and used copies are available for sale on Amazon and other online booksellers.
Publisher's Description: "A Generous Community is a book that invites the reader to wade deeply into the transformative work of being church in a new missionary age. This book is designed for the person in the pew. Not unlike the reformers who hoped to inspire a change within the church of their time, this book is for every one who wishes to take on the work of mission through evangelism and service for the sake of God's reconciling work and for the hope of community transformation.
Bishop Andy Doyle understands that the church must change. Every day, he presides over parishes that are no longer vital, that have not adapted to the 'VUCA' (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world of today — the world in which the church exists. The church still looks to hierarchies when it needs to build networks, and stays mired in arguments when it needs to find unity. With the experience of a bishop and the insight of a deep learner, Doyle points the way to the future with a vision for how we can learn, serve, and communicate with each other."
The Christian Formation Commission hopes you will enjoy this opportunity to socialize as well as further explore your faith journey. For details, meeting location, and sign up, email firstname.lastname@example.org or speak with Sophfronia Gregory or Nancy Cole.
