Connecting to God and each other in small groups
What do you want most from your church life experience? Likely, you want to connect with God to be renewed, encouraged or comforted. At some level, you also want to connect with other members for fellowship, mutual encouragement, fun or even support. While attending the odd coffee hour or occasional church event can be meaningful, we all sense a need for something additional.
Here we go! For this reason, Trinity will launch our new small group ministry this October. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for you to be enriched spiritually and encouraged as you meet regularly with a group of caring friends. These informal small groups may be meeting in homes or wherever the group decides. Through personal sharing and discussion around God’s Word with study guides, you’ll gain insights and helpful applications for your personal walk with the Lord.
How do they work? Typically and ideally small groups will meet twice a month. Times for meeting can vary based on group members’ schedules. Each group will have a facilitator but leadership for the group can rotate among members including rotation of the venue for group meetings if meeting in a home. Meetings typically last about 90 minutes but the meetings are informal and so can be flexible in the amount of time committed. Starting this October, all of our new small groups will be using the same material. The series is called “1 Peter -Walk the Talk.” The focus is on coping as a Christian in today’s messy and often-times scary world and gleaning life lessons from God’s Word.
How do I sign up? If you are interested in participating in a small group, members of the Christian Formation Commission will pass around sign up sheets during the service this Sunday. You can also sign up or request more information by using the following link on the Trinity website: http://www.trinitynewtownct.org/small-group-sign-up.html. Feel free to contact Sophfronia Gregory (email@example.com), or Dan Bacon (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you’d like to talk more about how small groups work and what might be involved. We hope to have 3-4 small groups meeting in various locations and possibly at different times so you’ll be able to pick the one most convenient to your schedule and join in.
We strongly encourage you to take this step and connect with a small group this fall. You will be a part of something meaningful and enjoyable that can make a big difference in your ongoing life as a believer.
